Attorney

Attorney at Law in United States

An attorney is required to have earn their bachelor's degree, complete three years of law school and pass the bar. An attorney is also known as a lawyer. There are many different types of lawyers who study a specific field so that they can specialize in that area. Each specialized lawyer is trained and focused on one area of law so that they are able to give specific, excellent counsel that will help their cliental. The starting salary of a lawyer of any specialty is around 57, 000 but this number could double or triple as the lawyer gains experience and develops a strong, loyal clientele.

Defense and Prosecuting attorneys are probably the most popular attorneys; not in number but in popularity. There are many TV shows that depict the challenges of these attorneys as they research, use forensic science and even twist truths on the TV shows in order to win the case for or against the accused. Defense lawyers are portrayed as one who studies and trains specifically to help a client who is potentially in trouble with the law to escape the consequences completely or even to have the case dismissed. Defense attorneys are often portrayed as focused, determined, and willing to be deceitful in order to win. The truth is that we need defense attorneys as they are the ones who fight for the innocent that have been falsely accused or that fight for a lesser sentence for the one who deserves another chance.

Accident and Personal Injury Attorneys specialize in serving clients that have been involved in an accident or injury situation and are suing persons who may be held legally and financially responsibility for the injuries incurred.

There are also general lawyers who do not specialize in a specific area but instead provide service for clients in a variety of areas. They attend court cases on a variety of issues and summons such as motor vehicle ticket or even draw up legal papers for a Will. These lawyers act as a general practitioner would in medicine. They treat many areas but may need to point the individual to a specialist.

The starting salary for an Attorney is higher than most professions. As the Attorney gains experience this salary can double or even triple. Lawyers are limited by a legal jurisdiction law which restricts them to only practice law in the states that they are licensed in. For example, a lawyer who holds a license in New York can not practice law in Florida. Studying to be a lawyer is a great career. Many lawyers have also gone into politics as studying law gives them a strong versatile foundation.

These are from a book called "Disorder in the American Courts", and are things people actually said in court, word for word, taken down and now published by court reporters that had the torment of staying calm while these exchanges were actually taking place. WITNESS: Oral. _________________________ ATTORNEY: Do you recall the time that you examined the body? WITNESS: The autopsy started around 8:30 p.m. ATTORNEY: And Mr. Denton was dead at the time? WITNESS: No, he was sitting on the table wondering why I was doing an autopsy on him! _________________________ ATTORNEY: Are you qualified to give a urine sample? How does attorney fees work for non criminal matters? (Answers: 2) (Comments: 0)

I asked this question in a different way, and I neglected to explain that it's not a law suit case, so 'contingency' is probably not an option. My question is: If a potential client doesn't have the entire retainers fee up front for an attorney, is there a way that an attorney can start representing the client with some sort of a guarantee that he/she will be paid? Is there a form of written agreement that can be drawn up between the attorney and the potential client?

How quickly do attorney fees accrue on a property that has gone into foreclosure? (Answers: 3) (Comments: 0)

I am working on a property that is in foreclosure in WA state. It is 2 months into the process, $11,500 in back payments and taxes and a few thousand in attorney fees for the mortgage holder's attorneys. Is there a ballpark estimate of how much attorney fees will be once the 135 days is up and it goes to sale, and is there any formula for calculating the rate of their charges?

Where can I find an attorney that specializes in indigent criminal defense? (Answers: 3) (Comments: 1)

I have a friend who is being wrongly accused of something he hasn't done, and is currently incarcerated behind it. The court appointted attorney that he has, does not have his best interest in mind. The attorney met with my friend once in the last 3 or 4 months and when my friend's family inquire about the case the attorney gives them the run around. My friend and his family can't afford an attorney, so they have pretty much given up hope of him ever coming home. So if there is anyone who knows anyone willing to help my friend, please let me know. Any info or help would be grately appreciated.
